Dr. Melissa McHugh-Modany

Dr. Melissa McHugh-Modany is a Licensed Psychologist providing therapy services for adults at Freedom First Psychological Services.

Dr. McHugh-Modany has extensive experience serving individuals and families in outpatient settings. She has treated children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a wide range of emotional-behavioral concerns. In particular, Dr. McHugh-Modany specializes in clinical work with individuals presenting with anxiety, mood, and depressive problems. Also, she has considerable background in addressing family stressors, parenting issues, and other situational/life events that may be contributing to mental health issues.

Dr. McHugh-Modany earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Providence College. She then pursued both a Masters of Art and a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (now known as Argosy University) in Chicago, Illinois. While completing her Masters and Doctorate, she completed training in a psychiatric hospital, a substance abuse program, and several community mental health settings.

Prior to her work at Freedom First Psychological Services, Dr. McHugh-Modany worked for over 16 years at a Community Mental Health Center in Massachusetts. While her work was predominantly with children and adults on an outpatient basis, she also had the opportunity to provide both outreach services to children in a Head Start program and home-based services to families in crisis. Additionally, she facilitated groups in a day treatment program serving adults with severe mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
