Shirell is a Mental Health Counselor with Freedom First Psychological Services, providing therapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Shirell is a graduate from University at Albany’s Mental Health Counseling Master of Science program. She previously obtained her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Political Science from the University at Albany. Shirell’s academic background in both Psychology and Political Science provides her with a nuanced understanding of human behavior, societal influences, and the complex interplay between individual experiences and broader cultural contexts.

In her practice, Shirell specializes in providing individualized care to individuals, families, and couples, with a particular focus on couples and family therapy. Her approach is informed by a deep commitment to understanding the unique experiences and cultural backgrounds of her clients, ensuring that care is both personalized and inclusive. With a trauma-informed framework, Shirell skillfully addresses issues such as communication barriers, intimacy, connection, and family dynamics. Her work with couples is rooted in helping partners navigate relational challenges, enhance emotional intimacy, and rebuild connection, all while fostering an environment of safety and mutual understanding.

Shirell’s expertise extends to a wide array of mental health concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and familial difficulties. She is adept at addressing how these issues intersect within romantic and platonic relationships, providing individuals with the tools they need to cultivate healthier, more fulfilling connections. Through her compassionate and integrative approach, Shirell helps her clients work through their struggles and strengthen the foundation of their relationships.
