Whitney Closson, MHC Intern

Whitney Closson is a graduate level intern in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, providing therapy sessions for children/adolescents at Freedom First Psychological Services, PLLC. 

Whitney is working towards completing her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Whitney works well with clients across a wide range of ages, from children to adults. Her treatment approach focuses on children and adolescents with ADHD and behavioral issues, as well as adolescents and adults who experience anxiety, stress or depression.

Whitney has several years of experience working in the inpatient psychiatric setting, serving clients of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and trauma. Whitney has also worked with at-risk youth in a residential setting, as well as community agencies that service adult clients with chronic illnesses. 

 Whitney is dedicated to helping individuals focus on their positive strengths, providing them with support and skills to work towards obtaining their highest level of functioning and emotional wellbeing. Whitney enjoys combining treatment-based approaches with alternative therapy, including aromatherapy, yoga and mindfulness. Whitney's patient and compassionate nature also allows her to connect well with youth clients struggling with ADHD and various behavioral issues, in order to assist in determining patterns of behavior and identifying triggers and warning signs for negative behaviors. 

Whitney graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology from The College of Saint Rose. She is currently completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Walden University. Whitney is a member of the American Counseling Association, as well as a National Counselor’s Honor Society Chi Sigma Iota (Omega Zeta). She also holds certifications for Life Coaching, Men’s Trauma Issues and Mental Health First Aid.
